Pastor Rodney Wills has been fired for attending a Rick Ross concert after nearly four years of service to Mt. Salem Baptist Church
in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
“We cannot have our leader supporting people of this world who are tearing down the kingdom of God,” the church's deacon, Miles Langley said, according to AmericaPreachers.com. “We know that many saints will have mixed opinions from our actions, but this is not how we do things here at Mt. Salem...We cannot have a pastor praising the world one minute then praising the Lord the next. Period."
The deacon board voted on Wills' position Saturday (August 3). When Wills arrived to church Sunday (August 4), he found that his name had been removed from his office door and his parking sign had been taken down.
Langley said that this was the second time Wills was found at a Rap show. Months before, the deacon board reportedly met with Wills after he was seen at a Lil Wayne concert. Wills was the youngest pastor in Mt. Salem's history when he was installed at 26 years old. He now holds the record for the shortest term with close to 4 years of service.
Wills isn't the first to suffer consequences at work in relation to Hip Hop. Last year, it was reported that a teacher was suspended for playing Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' "Same Love" in a middle school classroom.

I'm sorry, but the first mistake was to allow him as a spiritual leader with that hair do! The church has failed God. The word of God is clear on the last days. People (the church) will fall away from the truth and hire itchy ear preachers (hirlings) and will lead many astray. Thank God the deacons didn't fall for the worldly concert scene. I stand up as a true Christian that has raise the standards myself according to the word of God and no one else has to. Leaders are supposed to be exemplary leaders. Set apart from the world. Just because the world has changed, God and His mandates haven't.
ReplyDeletewhat's wrong with his hair? Jesus' hair may have looked like this but longer. God only sees the heart but many "so called Christians" don't get it. Just open the word and begin learning about our true Savior. God bless. By the way, Jesus surrounded himself with the sinners. We must go to the world to spread the gospel. I do not know this pastor or his intentions about going to that concert but i will not judge him. God bless.
ReplyDeletemayb he actually went to get a title 4 his sermon. lol
