A NIGERIAN SENATOR EARNS N29.4M IN A MONTH


A report published by news portal thestreetjournal.com, has put the total monthly remuneration package for each of 109 serving senators of the Federal House of Assembly at N29,479,749. 

The jumbo pay package which if calculated per annum is six times bigger than what is earned by President Barack Obama of the United States, also included are provisions for a N1, 242,122.70 monthly newspapers allowance (which they don’t buy and read) and another N621, 061.37 wardrobe monthly allowance for each of the lawmakers. Below is a breakdown of the total monthly earnings each senator in Nigeria as reported by the news portal.

Basic Salary (BS)  =  N  2,484,245.50
Hardship Allowance:  50% of Basic Salary  =  N  1,242,122.75

Constituency allowance:  200% of BS  =  N  4,968,509.00
Furniture Allowance:  300% of BS  =  N  7,452,736.50
Newspaper allowance:  50% =  N  1,242,122.70
Wardrobe allowance:  25%  =  N     621,061.37
Recess Allowance:  10%  =  N     248,424.55
Accommodation:  200%  =  N  4,968,509.00
Utilities:  30%  =  N     828,081.83
Domestic Staff:  35%  =  N     863,184.12
Entertainment:  30%  =  N     828,081.83
Personal Assistance:  25%  =  N     621,061.37
Vehicle Maintenance Allowance:  75%  =  N  1,863,184.12
Leave Allowance:  10%  =  N     248,424.55
One off payments (Severance gratuity):  300%  =  N  7,452,736.50
Motor Vehicle Allowance:  400% of BS  =  N  9,936,982.00
Total per month  =  N29,479,749.00

  2. Ug, you'll be amazed when you get to know more about how corrupt the Nigerian political system is. Nigerians are not supposed to be poor but unfortunately, the masses represented by these 'wolves' called the representatives wallow in poverty! Its a shame!
